The Reluctant Stowaway - Marta Kristen Memories
"Get me the girl with the big earrings" cried Irwin Allen. "I want the girl with the big earrings"
Thus I became Lost In Space for 3 seasons. Originally when I was called into Irwin Allen's office to see a script for a new show that he was producing, Lost In Space, I was not interested. Science Fiction was not my forte. However, after repeated calls from Irwin, I decided to do the show. We shot the pilot episode, which did not include Dr. Smith and the Robot. The pilot subsequently would be split up into 5 episodes to include Dr. Smith and the Robot.
I was very happy to be a part of a new space adventure. The Reluctant Stowaway was filmed, which included Jonathan Harris as Dr. Smith and Bob May as the Robot. The space program back in 1965 was very much a part of life, and the show could be part of the real thing.
I happily got up in the morning, went down to the set, and was prepared for filming. I thought the Reluctant Stowaway was very well done, and bringing Jonathan Harris in as the villain, was a very good idea. The special effects were wonderful, and a lot of money went into producing this episode.
It was filmed in back and white, which gave the episode a darker feeling and a different look, as was the first season of Lost in Space.
I was definitely happy to be a part of Lost in Space, for it has lived on for so many years later.
