Third Season Episodes - Castles In Space (episode 73)

I remember this episode was directed by Sobey Martin. In most of the episodes that Sobey directed, he would yell action, then fall asleep in his director's chair. Irwin Allen liked Sobey Martin a lot, because he gave Irwin the coverage he needed, when he directed. During the filming of Castles in Space, there was a scene where the Robot drinks some alcohol fed to him by Chavo, and gets drunk. Well Sobey Martin yells action to start the scene, then falls asleep in his director's chair. I waited 5 clicks, then as the Robot, I say to Chavo, 'Do you know who you are, or what you are?' 

Chavo replies, 'What robot?' 

'You're a drunken bleep, bleep, bleep Mexican.' 

At that moment, Sobey wakes up, and starts to thumb through his script to find where the bleep, bleep, bleep was. The cast and crew broke out in laughter, as the bleep, bleep, bleep was of course not in the script. I liked Alberto Monte, and I thought he did a good job as the Mexican bandito. The episode itself was a funny episode to shoot.

This is a fun episode dealing with the camp aspect of LIS. In the third season of LIS, there are a few campy episodes, but I rate this as one of the best camp episodes. 

In this episode we get treated by a great performance by Alberto Monte, who plays a silver skinned Spanish-speaking alien named "Chavo". Chavo is on a mission to find an ice-princess (played by actress Corinna Tsopei), and bring her back to his planet. 

We also get to see the Robot get drunk, as Chavo feeds him alcohol. A big highlight in this episode is Bill Mumy and Marta Kristen sitting by a campfire, singing "Sloop John B". This was a fun episode to watch, especially if you like the campy side of LIS.
