The Robinsons are unsure whether an alien family are friendly explorers or hostile invaders.
Dr. Smith races back to the spacecraft to warn the others of a strange metallic object which he encountered. As he describes the object, it appears outside the Jupiter 2's hatch and suddenly rematerializes inside. Analyzing it in the lab, John, Don, Will and Smith surmise that it is a data recorder sent ahead by aliens to determine the planet's make-up.
Later, Will notices a beam of light in the sky, which leads him to alien equipment and an alien man, Rethso, who materializes next to it. Will tries to talk to the man, but when Will turns his head, the alien disappears. John and Don conclude that the piece of equipment is a matter transfer device.
Back at the Jupiter 2's camp area, John tries to quell Smith' s alarmed hostility towards the alien presence. Smith sneaks off with the metallic object to try to locate the aliens. The object leads him to the Tauron family's camp, where he tries to talk with the male Tauron and his wife Moela. But when Smith panics and draws his laser gun, Moela hands Rethso a weapon and the two men face each other in stalemate.
Later that day, Will comes upon Lunon, a young alien boy, and while Lunon shows Will a mysterious ball which returns to its thrower, Will sneezes. Lunon is struck down by the germs, and Will cares for him. Near dark, John and Don are unable to locate Will.
The next morning, John, Don and Smith travel to the Taurons' camp. While John and Rethso try to communicate, Smith spots Moela behind a rock with a weapon and he fires his laser gun, nearly striking her. Will carries Lunon back to the Taurons with John's help. Moela discovers that the boy is ailing and speaks to Rethso, causing him to level his weapon at John. Will rushes in front of his father to protest. Lunon suddenly rises and struggles over to clasp Will's hand in friendship. The boy says something to Moela which she relates to Rethso, causing him to put his arm on John in a gesture of friendship. Soon afterwards, the Taurons depart the planet on their beams of light.
Later that day, Smith drops a fuel pack near Don and Will, causing vapors to trail from a loosened valve. As Don struggles to shut off the leakage, the full vapors threaten to explode.
