First Season Episodes - My Friend Mr. Nobody (episode 7)

Penny befriends a cosmic force that nearly destroys the Robinsons and their ship.

Penny wanders into a blast area where Don and John have set a charge in their search for suitable fuel minerals. Just as Don triggers the charge, John sees his daughter and shields her from the blast. Later, Penny wanders off into an exotic wooded area where she discovers a secret cave hidden by a boulder - which moves at her touch. Inside she finds that her echo is really a voice from some invisible source.

Startled, she runs back to the spaceship to tell everyone of her new-found friend, Mr. Nobody. But no one takes her seriously. The next day she makes another visit and finds that The Voice displays intelligence. Later, when Penny shows Will some crystals she has found in the cave, Dr .Smith silently recognizes them to be diamonds. Penny denies Smith's request to visit her cave.

When Penny leaves again, Smith follows. Inside the cave, Penny explains to The Voice that there is not enough light to read the book she has brought. The Voice responds by creating a rock slide outside which admits light into the cave. Smith pokes his head through the opening, and his presence silences The Voice.

Back at the ship, Smith persuades Don to go with him to blast the area by showing him a clay sample which he falsely claims he found at the site. After Smith and Don have gone off to the cave, Penny realizes that Smith is a danger and she rushes off to warn The Voice. As Penny enters the cave, Smith and Don blast it to bits from the other side. The Voice begins to wail over Penny's motionless body. Suddenly, the earth rumbles under Smith and Don as they rush to the Jupiter 2.

At the spaceship, Smith, Don, John, Maureen, Judy and Will prepare to battle a fast approaching cosmic disturbance. As they send the Robot into the eye of the storm to try to stop it, they notice Penny stumbling in the distance. When Penny sees the force nearing the spaceship she implores it not to hurt her family. She exclaims "I love them just like I love you!" Suddenly all grows still. Penny bids farewell to Mr. Nobody as its now glittering form sails off into the heavens.

The next day, as life returns to normal, an alien spacecraft scans the Jupiter 2 campsite.

Angela Cartwright on My Friend Mr. Nobody

My Friend, Mr. Nobody is my all time favorite episode of Lost In Space. I love the look of it, the feel of the music, the message it sends. Playing the character of 'Penny' has always been dear to my heart and in this episode she is very adventurous, very bold, and very curious. She really tries to understand what makes her new alien friend tick and has some soul-searching conversations with Mr. Nobody. I like Penny and like the fact that I was able to play her and feel so comfortable in her skin.

The 'Penny' music that was created by John Williams for this episode is one of the reasons it is such a special episode. When I hear those strains of music, it really does encompass Penny's deep feelings and wonderment, with a touch of mysterious alien planet mixed in. How cool is that!
